Stupid Kid 02:37
V1 I was a stupid kid With a stupid dream That people would wanna hear me sing And play guitar Like a rockstar Yea, what a stupid thing to believe Pre-Chorus The things I planned Rarely worked out in the end C I was a stupid kid Just a stupid kid V2 I wrote a stupid song About a stupid girl That I was sure would change the world She’d sing along But I was wrong Yea, I guess I never got the nerve Pre-Chorus The things I planned Rarely worked out in the end C When your a stupid kid Just a stupid kid V3 And now I sit at home On my stupid iPhone Recording my new stupid song C I’m still a stupid kid Always a stupid kid

V1 She’s like a summer day When the trees are blooming The world is as it should be I feel so actually human V2 She’s like an autumn breeze Blowing in the evening I love her and she likes me Literally Probably Maybe C I get this peculiar feeling Whenever she’s around Its like the world is spinning And turning upside down V3 She’s like the winter snow Falling down so quietly Like I’m falling again Maybe probably likely C I get a peculiar feeling Whenever she’s around Its like the whole world is spinning And turning upside down V4 She’s like a bright Spring morn When everything is new It seems anything is possible Probably Maybe it’s you C I get a peculiar feeling Whenever she’s around Its like the whole world is spinning And turning upside down

V1 We listened to Phoebe singing by the river that one night Sitting underneath the stars or a Chinese satellite We waited ’til the very last note had drifted long away We walked each other back to the car and I drove home the long way V2 We drove around searching for any open place to eat Listening to the same three songs we had looping on repeat My heart could barely hold all the things I wanted to say So I found an open drive-through and I drove home the long way. V3 I still hear the music floating on a late night summer breeze It may not have meant much to you, but it was everything to me And sometimes I still will turn a certain song up all the way I open up the windows and the roof and I drive home the long way

V1
When you’re here it seems so-so real to me
Seconds near it’s just so unclear to me
If you can see through me CHORUS
Can you see right through me
It’s like you're looking past me
The way you see right through me
It’s a slow radius V2 Looking for what you don’t reveal to me
If you want more, it’s something you can ask of me But then you’ll look right through me CHORUS Bridge You see my face you hear my voice
I guess I’m not your only choice
So you don’t see me Chorus And you see right through me
And you see right through me
And you see right through me
And you see right through me
The way you see right through me
It’s a slow radius

V1 You made me feel better than good Closer to fine I was such a fool for wanting you V2 You made me feel like I was seen You made me believe But you only believed in you, it was never me Ch 1 You got what you want You got what you need You got what you want It’s not me V3 You made me feel like I was enough You made me feel free But whatever it was we were, wasn’t meant to be Ch 2 You got what you want You got what you need I hope it was all that you dreamed it would be You got what you want It’s not me Ch 3 You got what you want You got what you need I hope it was everything you dreamed it would be You got what you want It’s not me You got what you want You got what you need You got what you want It’s not me

Turns Blue 03:30
V1 Where you go is where you are
That was what you used to tell me
 The seeds that we’ve planted
It’s time for them grow V2 Time has passed it’s time to go
Not exactly what you wanted
 The clouds have a entrance
That they want us to see….. C
Is this the rest of our life
Who’ll be the bravest of knights
What will be tomorrow what is left today
When it turns blue Bridge Silently Eternally
Wander Through
Carry on… on and on
Where you belong You’ll carry on through the blue sky
You’ll carry on, on your way
V3 See the stars from where you are
Lift me up inside your world
I’ll remember beyond this what could never be seen
7.
She Believes 03:24
V1 She believes the world’s against her She believes she’s a never mind She believes that true love’s much too hard to find V2 She believes her heart is fragile She believes she can’t offend She believes that fairy tale don’t come true in the end Chorus But she is stronger than she believes V3 She believes her dreams are worthless She believes wishes are in vain She believes every sunny day is gonna rain Chorus She is stronger than she believes
8.
V1 Think you know this life and the world we all must weather, every wrong from right, the longest way to the grave. V2 But sometimes late at night I don't have it all together. Every thought feels tight, my soul tossed by the waves... Keep going anyway. C Maybe there's a real good time just around the corner, buried treasure. Maybe it will blow our mind... won't settle for less than more than happiness. V3 So you walk that line 'til you get to something better. Find the hope that grinds suffering into joy. Go out and get 'em boy. C Maybe there's a real good time just around the corner, buried treasure. Maybe it will blow our mind... won't settle for less than more than happiness. C Maybe there's a real good time just around the corner, buried treasure. Maybe it will blow our mind... won't settle for less than more than happiness.

Civil War 03:41
V1 Who’s drawing the line falling between you and me? You’re not blind but then why can’t you see. You listen with your mouth not with your ears ‘Cause what I mean to say is never what you hear C1 I’m not gonna fight your civil war I’m not gonna fight your civil war V2 Who’s the puppet master pulling all your strings? Any chance to drive a wedge you take a swing? C2 I’m not gonna fight your civil war I’m not gonna fight your civil war I’ll bury my bullets while you keep the score But I’m not gonna fight your civil war Bridge If I ask the wrong questions will you tell me the wrong lies Because our conversation is the place where your truth dies Chorus I’m not gonna fight your civil war I’m not gonna fight your civil war I’ll bury my bullets while you’re keeping score I’m not gonna fight your civil war

C Beautiful Things Beautiful Things don’t need to be seen V1 She doesn’t call a witness No emotional overload I’d love her in my darkness Id lover he in the middle of the road Your lack of attention please Whatever will be will be C Beautiful Things Beautiful Things don’t need to be seen V2 The undiscovered island The sun rising up all alone The ocean deep and silent The phases of the moon carry on No wonder needs wonder from me Just like the wind blows the tree C Beautiful Things Beautiful Things don’t need to be seen Beautiful Things Beautiful Things don’t need to be seen
11.
V1 Wake up. Get ready to go. Pack your bag and let’s hit the road Get your beach towels and flip flops Your cut-offs and crop tops Eight hours to the coast C We’ll be back in our happy place Sun kisses on our face Feet in the sand Splashing in the ocean Might just stay all month If we get the notion V2 No need for your hurry and worry No filters needed for this vacation story We’ll join the mermaids and the pirates Taking Selfies at the sunsets Posing down by the shore C We’ll be back in our happy place Sun kisses on our face Feet in the sand Splashing in the ocean Might just stay all month If we get the notion Yeah, yeah, yeah We’ll be back in our happy place Sun kisses on our face Feet in the sand Splashing in the ocean Let’s stay all summer If we get the notion
12.
V1 You think you know the way but you’re lost in your irony You’re telling me that you’ll figure it out As you tumble and fall into your doubts Ch You’re not alone You will never be alone V2 You say that you’re resigned To leave your past behind But of all the things that you’ll forget I hope you will remember this Ch You’re not alone You will never be alone You twist and turn and dance and spin Until you’re falling down again and again But you’re not alone Bridge It doesn’t matter where you roam Even if you’re lonely, you’re never gonna be alone

Reviews

"Over the past few years David Woodard has produced a full album of material and then some. Thus far though he’s been more of an EP than LP kind of guy. Five EPs in fact. Now on 'Stupid Kid' he stretches out a bit, presenting 12 tunes cast in a variety of power pop hues. Things start off strong with the magnificent title track 'Stupid Kid,' a song for anyone whose teen self ever fantasized playing before adoring fans or just an adolescent crush. This song has new-wave throwback hit written all over it, a poppy rock delight in a solo Paul Collins or John Faye vein. 'Literally Probably Maybe' keeps the 1980s guitar pop sheen shining brightly while 'Right Through Me' takes this formula but adds a sweetness to the melody and vocal harmonies, courtesy the incomparable Lisa Mychols. If you really want to divine the magic behind what Woodard’s doing on this album just give a close listen to songs like 'She Believes' and 'More Than Happiness.'  They’re chock full of interesting melodic turns and creative vocal arrangements that allow them to really stand out. And then there’s the hooky guitar work. I love the guitar lick opening of 'You’re Not Alone' but I’ll stay for the fabulous harmony vocals. With 'Stupid Kid' David Woodard is all grown up and making power pop you really do want to hear. — Poprock Record

“...[an] album full of tight 3 minute pop songs.” — Gowan Clews; Hayes FM

“Supremely well-crafted jangle pop from David Woodard whose four EPs (or mini-LPs) released prior to this ‘full-length’ record - a particularly apt denomination as it comprises no fewer than seventeen tracks - were extremely promising.” — Popphil

“After a few EP's in the last four years, the Nashville singer is now releasing a studio album that contains twelve cuts of melodic powerpop and jangle-pop that are well above average and that help considerably to establish a musician who should get a lot more recognition.” — WoodyJagger.com

"David Woodard follows his muse (after a series of fine EPs) with some of the best music I’ve heard from him. With a mix of 80s indie rock arrangements and power pop smarts, his music nerd comes out on the catchy title track “Stupid Kid.” The jangling gem next, “Literally Probably Maybe” is similar to Fountains of Wayne mixed with a little Bill Lloyd, using his low-key vocal and poetic lyric. His duets with the Queen of Power Pop, Lisa Mychols are also standouts, “Right Through Me” is just a perfect bouncy rocker and the quieter “Turns Blue” highlights those lovely harmonies.

The guitar hooks of “More Than Happiness” (a duet with the late David Schrader) is another in a series of strong tunes here. If you get the CD version of the album, you get five additional tracks from his EPs including “Applebees,” a favorite of mine. While his vocals aren’t particularly dominant, David is a big talent and not a “Stupid Kid” because he gets better with each release. Do yourself a favor and get this highly recommended collection of gems. — Power Popaholic”

"There are words I don't use to describe music, because I don't want people picking up on the wrong connotation, if they have more than one to choose from. But I have to use one of those words to describe this album, then I'll explain why...'CHARMING.'

By 'charming' I don't mean Air Supply or a Kenny Loggins song about his puppy. I'm referring, primarily, to the title track, 'Stupid Kid.' I WAS the 'stupid kid' in that song, I stood in my bedroom in a small New England town as a 10 year old, Sears Silvertone electric around my neck, doing Pete Townshend windmills for no one to see. And decades later, I'm still that kid, just a lot older, but I haven't changed a bit. [I]f you're an artist and you don't know me and you write a song that makes me say 'I've stood in those shoes,' you've won me over.

This album won me over. Make no mistake, it IS a ROCK album, a 'Power Pop' album, it's tuneful and energetic and filled with guitars." — Michael L. DeAngelis

about

David Woodard Nashville, Tennessee

David Woodard returns with GET IT GOOD, a full-length effort full of his trademark sugar-sweet melodies and harmonies. There is much more here than throwbacks to the Liverpool’s favorite sons. David influences are often on his sleeve as overtones of Fountains of Wayne, Cheap Trick, Big Star, The Rolling Stones, and even boygenius trickle from your speakers like familiar friends. ... more
